What is your research topic?

My research topic is the Death Penalty.

Why did you choose this topic?

I chose this topic because it is a highly debated topic in the United States of America and across the world. I also chose this topic because I am interested in the various issues related to the death penalty like innocence and costs.

How important is your topic to society?

The topic of the Death Penalty is very important to society because innocent people have been previously put to death for crimes they did not commit. There are also innocent people on death row right now that are innocent.

If your research proposal is completed how can it benefit society?

I believe when my research proposal is completed it will benefit society by educating citizens of the various issues related to the death penalty such as arbitrariness, costs, innocence, and race. I believe it will also educate citizens on the benefits of the application of the death penalty in certain cases.

What are some potential policy implication of your research topic?

Some potential policy implications of the death penalty include the related costs and possible benefits of the death penalty. The death penalty is a moral issue for some and a policy issue for others. Many people assume the state saves money by using the death penalty since an executed person no longer requires confinement, health care, and related expenses. But in the modern application of capital punishment, that assumption has been proven wrong. The cost and benefits of the application of capital punishment would be policy implications which would be further researched in my proposal.

How could you get other interested in your topic or make claim that your topic is a significant social problem? How could we communicate this to the public?

I believe any reasonable person would think that innocent people being put to death for crimes they have not committed is a significant social problem in our country and across the world. I would communicate my reasoning to the public by providing research of previous individuals who were put to death but later proven to be innocent of their accused crimes.
