Lahore University from Coffee Beans to Jelly Filling Project

Lahore University from Coffee Beans to Jelly Filling Project

Lahore University from Coffee Beans to Jelly Filling Project

Description

Note: This document format is required for ALL civic-engagement projects.

You will present your civic-engagement project in the form of a brief paper, no more than 3 pages in length, which must use the template provided. This is the publication template for the Association for Computing Machinery. Most journals or professional publications will have similar templates for submissions, and will only review documents prepared using those templates.

The template itself looks fairly complicated, because it includes how to present anything that a paper might contain–charts, tables, graphs, photos, equations, block quotes, whatever. DON’T PANIC. Your paper will almost certainly NOT contain all of those features; you can just delete the portions of the template that don’t apply. A sample paper is also attached, so you can see how it works in practice.

Your paper should contain the following sections. The sample questions are there to get you started, to give you an idea of where to begin. (That is, your writing should begin with these questions, not end with them.)

  • ABSTRACT: A brief summary of the entire paper, including conclusions. This is not the place for teaser text such as “I couldn’t believe what happened next,” or “Our findings were truly amazing.” It’s not clickbait or advertising; it’s about giving someone a short summary so they can decide if it’s worth downloading and reading the entire paper. Someone seeing the abstract in a page of search results should be able to get a clear idea of what the paper’s about. This should be brief, no more than 100-200 words.
  • CCS CONCEPTS: This is part of the ACM’s Computing Classification System, used to index articles for the ACM Digital Library and other online databases. It can be found at https://dl.acm.org/ccs Links to an external site.. Select the ONE category that comes CLOSEST to describing the subject of your project, and drill down (select subcategories) until you have 3 terms. For example, if you helped a nonprofit review its practices for digital privacy, you might select Social and Professional Topics -> Computing and Technology policy -> Privacy policies.  (This is just an example; privacy appears in other places of the CCS as well, depending on whether it’s privacy policies, technologies, etc.) You should pick ONE such classification, and it MUST be something from the CCS; you cannot make up your own categories.
    • Sometimes nothing seems to fit exactly. Come as close as you can. This is an attempt to classify a very broad field in a very few terms; also, some projects were completely non-technical, such as homeless shelters, litter pick-up, etc. There won’t always be a perfect fit. You’re not responsible for overcoming the limits of the CCS, but you are responsible for thinking about how your work fits into a larger body of work.
  • KEYWORDS: 4-7 keywords or short phrases relating to what your project was about. What search terms would be appropriate for this paper? These can be anything–you’re not bound to a particular list.
  • MOTIVATION: Why did you select this project? What are the goals? Was there something specific you wanted to accomplish or goal you had? What are the goals of the project/agency? What does it try to do? Basically tell the reader what the context is, what it’s about.
  • CONTRIBUTIONS: What did you do? How long did it take? What different tasks did you carry out? Who did you interact with? What happened? This is where you’ll talk about what you did and how your contribution fit into the larger whole.
  • ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS: This section is the ‘meat’ of your paper. You should identify at least 3 ethical issues related to your project, and discuss how they were handled.
    • This doesn’t have to be ethical problems; if something was handled well, talk about how it was handled and why that was the right way to handle it.
    • Tie each area back to specific sections of the Code by section number. It’s not necessary to quote the Code extensively or explain what the Code is; you can assume your reader is familiar with it. Likewise, it’s not necessary to try to fit every part of the Code into your discussion.
    • ECE students: You can, if you wish, use the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of Ethics for Engineers Links to an external site.instead. Choose one Code or the other; you don’t need to use both.
  • CONCLUSIONS: A paragraph or two on what it all means, what the key take-away points are. What’s the most important thing about this you want someone to know about?

—-Choose 2 positioning criteria for mapping the position against competitors. See the
template below and in this week’s Module. Pleas
Select at least 3 competitors to map Dunkin’ Donuts against. Explain for each company
(Dunkin’ Donuts and the competitors) why you mapped them where they are in your
positioning map. For example, if you select high/low price as a criterion, your research
should show coffee prices from a product that all chains have to justify how you mapped
all companies in your positioning grid.
Below please find a positioning mapping example. You can also use and adapt this
template (link here Download link here)
