Step 1: Find a news story that you do not believe

• It can be about anything, but ideally, it conveys some information that you find important, but are skeptical of.
• The easiest way to do this is to go to a news source you do not trust.
• Once you¥ found one, post the URL to the news story in your notes.

Step 2: Investigate the context of the story

Take notes (using your own note-taking tools) to document:

• Who wrote the story? Can you find their biography? Their training? Their position? Their social media account? Learn everything you can about them.
• When did they write it? Was it investigative journalism performed over a long period of time? Or rapid, near real-time reporting?
• Why did they write it? Is this their ¥atàWhat other stories have they written? What does their Twitter account, if you found it, say about their politics, beliefs, and values?

Step 3: Write a brief post reporting on and summarizing what you found.

• Put the topic in the title of your post.
• It should be purely verbal, with no visual aid.
• It should contain:
  • What your story was about (a headline and summary)
  • Who wrote it
  • What you learned about them
  • When they wrote it
  • Your best guess about why they wrote it
  • The URL for the news story you are summarizing
