• Think about Oprah’s book club. Is there any correlation between it and Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiement? Is her book club the antithesis of the OE? What are you thoughts.

In today’s society, people follow the herd. We all pay attention to what celebrities and public figures do, what they wear or what they eat. So there will be companies looking for celebrities to endorse their products. People tend to follow influencers without thinking. And this kind of thing actually happens a lot in today’s society. Oprah is a very influential person in society. She can convince people to buy her favorite book or any product. His fans will keep up with their idols, and fans will choose and unconditionally buy whatever product Oprah recommends. However, I don’t think Oprah’s book club is the antithesis of Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiement because in Oprah’s book club’s case her fans are acting like her because she has special qualities or talents that make her fans willing to listen to her unconditionally, but the example in the Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiement is that the teacher has the power to ask the students to obey him. The students did not respect the teacher from the bottom of their hearts but listened to the teacher‘s orders because they had to.

I believe that people will follow whoever is trending or popular in society. For reference, Oprah is a very influential person. She is loved by millions of people and is very successful; people all over tune in to her and die heart fans. I don’t know if the Oprah book club is the antithesis; Oprah can persuade people to buy books or any product she is into. Since she is very influential, she can use her book club as bait to get people to spend money or even invert their time and energy into something. If she says, this book is widespread and says, “I love it; it’s a must-read,” people will go out and purchase the book, which can always be the opposite. She can say, “I’m not into this book or this type of literature, and people will agree, even if they like this particular genre, to feel connected with Oprah. It is misleading and manipulative, just like the author of “The Education of Little tree and Million Little things.” You give false narratives and information, and if it is written down in a book or paper, people will believe just the same as someone who society people love will assume that they know what they’re talking about based on words and not do any research on their own.
