General Instructions: Complete the readings listed below, which is available at Assigned
Readings. Write notes in the margins of the readings or on a separate sheet of paper. Then
answer the following questions in full sentences. Your answers should be about a paragraph
long. Include page numbers in your responses so that you can refer back to the reading during the
discussion. You can include direct quotes from the readings in your answers, but then also
should explain them in your own words. You are encouraged to discuss the readings with other
students but the answers on the assignment must be your own. (You are also not allowed to copy
answers from outside sources, like Wikipedia).
Bring a copy of your assignment %ither as a printout or on your computer 4o section
on the day that it is due. See the Syllabus for the due date for your section. You will show it to
the teaching assistant at the start of section. You will receive full credit if you turn them in on
time and have answered all of the questions. You will not be marked down if there are parts of
the questions you are confused about as long as you attempt to answer all of the questions. Halfcredit will be given for assignments turned in late or that are incomplete. No credit will be given
for assignments sent to TAs over e-mail.
Questions for Wright (2000), Class Counts, pages 1-34:
1. According to Erik Olin Wright, what is class exploitation? (Be sure to include all three of
the criteria described in the reading).
2. What are the various class locations that Wright (2000) describes and how are they
differentiated from one another? (Also note how it differs from more simplistic versions
